Running time 15 minutes
In the winter of 2016 / 2017, two events occurred in rapid succession. A sinkhole opened up under a suburban cul-de-sac exposing sewage rot underneath the homes. Shortly after, Iraq made a secret agreement with the U.S. that would allow hundreds of people to be deported back to the country.
Using the voice of Jony Jarjiss calling from immigration detention and videos released by the Macomb Country Public Works Commissioner, The Sinkhole reveals the visible and invisible toll of immigration detention and explores edited lives and landscapes.
